Introduction
Mubasen Video Productions is a Namibian film company that was established in early 1998. For the last five years Mubasen has produced films for a wide variety of clients including commercial companies, NGOs and government. A list of productions can be found in Annex 1. Mubasen has proved it can make high quality films to time and to budget that far exceeds clients’ expectations. Mubasen is now recognised as Namibia’s leading producer of such films.

ACTIVITIES OF THE COMPANY

Production
Our main activity is the production of high quality commissioned factual films for NGOs, companies and institutions in Namibia. Whatever the message we are confident that we can craft a video or radio programme to suit your needs and budget. From script to screen we have the resources and expertise to reach the hearts and minds of your audience.
A second area of production activity is our non-commissioned films. These are television documentaries and dramas, which we produce on budgets raised from international broadcasters, interested NGOs, and educational and cultural organisations.

Post-production
Video-post-production to internationally recognised standards is notoriously costly and in Namibia this has been a particular cause of frustration and expense as options have been limited. It was an enormous but vital step for us to raise the finance and purchase our own AVID Xpress digital-editing suite on which we have edited all our productions to date. This has helped us build a reputation for quality at a price our clients can afford. The Avid suite has not only proved important for Mubasen: it is hired to other production companies and NGOs working in Windhoek and is steadily building a client base of regular users. It is also a valuable training tool for related skills and when it was commissioned we ran a five-day intensive training course for editors.

Training
In all areas of audio-visual production there is a shortage of skilled and motivated personnel. Mubasen sees training as an important area of its activity in order to develop a sustainable industry, which is able to safeguard the culture and stories native to this country. Although this is a non-profit-making activity it is vital if we are to achieve our long-term goal of a viable independent local production base. We are seeking partners interested in supporting our initiatives to provide training for newcomers, or upgrading the skills of those already active in the fields of script writing, editing, acting, make-up, art direction, sound, camera and lighting.
